American Idol - Results Night, Mar 22

The injustice of it all. I predicted two of the bottom three, but never saw Erika as the one going home last night, and that's exactly how it played out. It was a shock to EVERYONE. The bottom three contest were Heejun, Erika and Deandre.

Heejun clearly has not taken this process seriously. He made comments last night that there would be more "craziness next week" but the bigger insult came when he said, "I'm not trying to be a star. I'm just happy where I am! I hope Heejun is confronted next week about his remarks and attitude.

Last night's results left me angry, but I quickly recomposed. These sort of things happen each season and I have already talked about this in previous posts. I'm looking forward to seeing how all of this will pan out.

Happy Birthday Steven Tyler !!

American Idol - Billy Joel Night

Wednesday night, the ten contestants sang songs from the great Billy Joel. I had forgotten how wonderful his music is. The contestants delivered strong performances, for the most part. It's becoming very clear who the best performers are. I believe this is the most mature group of finalists I have ever seen so early in the contest. Each of them know who they are and what kind of artists they want to be. Last week I said more stars would emerge from this season of contestants than any other. I still believe that. Tommy Hilfiger gave fashion advice to all contestants, but most did their own thing, which I loved.

The evening started off with Deandre Brackensick singing, Only The Good Die Young. I thought his performance was boring and lacked excitement. I really believe his talent has peaked. It was the worst performance of the evening.

Erika Van Pelt was next and sang, New York State of Mind. She took to the stage with a new look; shorter and darker hair. J-Lo compared her look to Pat Benatar, and I totally agree. Her face was visible and she was all smiles. Her performance was very strong. She is a natural on the stage. She was at ease and projected confidence. I think her new look will give her a few more votes...for a while. I still think she is one of the strongest female vocalists, but I think her age will be a factor eventually.

Next up was Joshua Ledet, performing, She's Got A Way. The song did not start out good and lacked feeling. The second half of the song was better. This was not his best performance, but I am confident he will remain safe. Steven Tyler admitted he had never heard this Billy Joel song. Shocking!

*I noticed at this point in the show Randy Jackson's man broach. He has been sporting this new look this season, but I'm not liking it. I love his watches though!

Skylar Laine was up next singing, Shameless. She started the song off at the low end of her register, which made the song a bit awkward and unsure, but it all worked itself out. I like Skylar very much. She remains true to herself. She showed how smart she is by explaining how she had to work the song because of the range of notes. She will be safe this week as well.

Elise Testone came to the stage looking great in a long purple dress. She sang, Vienna. She did a really good job. It was a solid performance. She is getting better and better each week. She will remain safe this week too.

Phil Phillips deconstructed Moving Out and made it his own. It was a great performance. It was a little slow. The song was exciting because you didn't know where it was going. Overall, I thought it was brilliant. He is safe!

Hollie Cavanagh came to the stage looking mighty sparkly and sang Honesty. The look was a bit bigger than her performance. I did not think this was a good song choice and it was pitchy in a few spots. She has a good voice but her nerves get the best of her. She was a bit sharp on a couple of notes in the beginning. Hollie will be in the bottom three.

Heejun Han gave everyone a huge scare. He started his song then stopped it in what appeared to be a mistake. When he resumed, he tore off his shirt and broke out in My Life. It was very shocking and personally, I did not appreciate it. Heejun has a problem deciding what he wants to be; actor, comedian or singer. Steven told Heejun, he needed to take the competition "more seriously"! Heejun will not last much longer in this competition. He dialect prevents him from singing some words clearly. His consonants slur and he doesn't finish other words. Heejun will complete the bottom three in tonight's results show.

Jessica Sanchez and Colton Dixon gave the best performances of the night. Jessica sang, Everybody Has A Dream. It was a very memorable song choice. It could not have been more perfect her. She became the song. Colton accompanied himself on the piano to Piano Man. Colton left me with goosebumps. What an incredible performance. His voice is so crystal clean. I believe the competition will come down to these two.

So my choices for the bottom three are Deandre, Hollie and Heejun. I believe Deandre will remain safe for another week. I don't know who will go home, but I'm leaning towards Heejun.

That's it boys and girls. Stay tuned for results.

Follow Fridays

I don't know if I truly understand the #FF thing on Twitter. How I think it's supposed to work is users suggest people to follow, to other Twitter friends. I thinks that's all fine and dandy. If I think someone is funny, brilliant, interesting or relatable, I will send out #FF's.

This is how I run my twitter. I follow people who are interesting, funny, brilliant and relatable. I choose people who don't have a lot of followers, except for the handful of stars I follow. I like to follow people I feel I have something in common with, and I hope that they will follow me. Twitter just lets you eavesdrop on other people's lives.

I know there are Twitter rankings, like who gets the most #FF's. I think this is so people can see who is popular at the moment. Maybe I am wrong. Having a large following is not important to me. I like my twitterverse small. I like to know and understand all of my tweeps. I hope that my followers will interact with me on some level. I don't understand why some people choose not to. I wish I were as funny and brilliant as some of the people I follow, but I'm not most of the time. Some people are so clever. It's fun watching people be spontaneous and crazy. Twitter is just entertaining.

Some twitter users, use the Twitter platform to promote something they are professionally involved in, like writing, comedy or acting. That is all understandable. What a great way to promote your work and for fans to stay connected. It's all very cool and much different than Facebook.

To me, people on Facebook are all looking to get stroked; looking for instant gratification. FB users remind me of vampires. I just don't want to talk to people all of the time. Actually, FB makes your personal life much smaller. That's how I feel. I do believe it is a great way to stay in touch with far away friends and family, and for sharing pictures. I'm not using FB anymore. Twitter is perfect for me.

This was supposed to be about Follow Friday, but I talked about general Twitter stuff and Facebook. I panic a little on Fridays. I don't know if people are waiting for me to #FF them. I do think it would be cool if some of my tweeps were following each other.

If I'm not see the full picture about some of this Twitter stuff, someone please let me know. I still have to figure out this "Lists" thingy too. Happy Follow Friday!

P.S. My spell check isn't working. Hope ther are no errors.

Idol Results Night - Mar 15, 2012

There were no surprises last night as the bottom three contestants were revealed. Interestingly, Facebook users selected favorites by using the "like" button. Here are their results:

#1: Jessica Sanchez with 44,101
#2: Phillip Phillips with 41,695
#3: Colton Dixon with 38,193
#4: Heejun Han with 19,056
#5: Deandre Brackensick with 19,029
#6: Skylar Laine with 17,848
#7: Hollie Cavanagh with 14,909
#8: Joshua Ledet with 14,774
#9: Elise Testone with 9,974
#10: Shannon Magrane with 9,780
#11: Erika Van Pelt with 9,342
My predictions were spot on as well, but you really never know. The contestant sent home last night was Shannon Magrane. Idol judges have one save they can use up to week five of the competition. The judges agreed that Shannon was the person to send home ;ast night. The difficult cuts have not started yet, but as this competition continues, the quality and confidence of performances will improve. It will turn into a real horse race. Those who can't keep up will fall by the wayside. So far, I don't see a clear frontrunner. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. More Idol blogging next week.

American Idol - Songs from the year you were born

The interesting thing to witness about this competition, is the amount of growth you see from week to week. I should start out by saying, I didn't vote for anyone this week. I think each contestant had a pretty solid performance last night. I also think the remaining 11 contestants are the strongest stand alone vocalist to date. I believe more stars will be born from this season, than any previous season. That's a pretty big statement.

Instead of tweeting comments during the show last night, I took notes and I'm having a hard time deciding where to begin.

First things first. Jermaine Jones was eliminated from the competition for failing to disclose some unresolved legal matters. That's a very big deal. When I was a member of the New York City Gay Men's Chorus three years ago, a group of 50 of us were selected to audition for Americas Got Talent at the invitation of AGT. The amount of paperwork was ridiculous. Producers want to know EVERYTHING! They want no surprises. My group did make it on TV and advanced to the Las Vegas rounds. However, before we left to go to Vegas, AGT producers cut us from the show. We were never given a reason why.

The two people I scored the lowest last night were, Heejun Han and Shannon Magrane. I do have a feeling that one of my favorites will be eliminated; not because she can't sing, but because she is the oldest contestant. I don't think younger kids can or will relate to her. I'm talking about Erika Van Pelt. She sang her song perfectly last night, but it was a song teens probably didn't know, so I am afraid she is going to go. By the way, she looked hot last night! I DO believe she will be a star.

My notes

Deandre Brackensick has to go. His Milli Vanilli hair is killing me!! Lately, his singing has been irritating me. I don't believe every song should be sung in falsetto. I was expecting his performance to be like everything else he's done, but I was fooled last night when he sang, Endless Love. He actually did a really good job except for the note at the end (falsetto). Deandre didn't smile once last night. He acted like someone threatened to cut off all his hair.

Elise Testone hasn't been my favorite contestant and last week she was pretty close to being sent home. In my opinion, she gave her best performance to date last night. The song was perfect for her. She did a great job

Shannon Magrane sang One Sweet Day, by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men. I thought Shannon's version was boring. Love the song, but not by Shannon.

My guy favorite Colton Dixon, sang a rock song, Broken Heart. Never heard of it, but he sang it well. He's going to be a star as well, with or without Idol.

Another person who is going to be a star, with or without Idol, is Skylar Laine. She's going to be a country diva. She was born for this. She reminds me of Reba McEntire.

Hollie Cavanagh sang Power of Love. Just a couple of areas with pitch problems but over all, she did a good job.

Results are tonight and as I always say, you never know how things will pan out. Stay tuned.

Cars, I'm never happy for long!

I'm having palpitations over the new 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee (above). I've had my current car, a Ford Edge for 20 months. The Ford Edge was attractive to me because of all the cool electronic features, its MPG and the fact that it would fit it my garage. My previous vehicle was a 08 Ford F150 crew cab 4x4. It was sweet. I loved how roomy and uncluttered the instrument panel was, but it was a major gas hog and wouldn't fit in the garage.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee looks very much like my dream car, the Range Rover (below), but I would never spend 60K+ for a vehicle. I could never afford it. I swore I would pay off my Ford Edge and be happy. Once paid off, I could do house projects. Seems like a sound plan, huh? I'm not feeling particularly strong though. The good news is, I take care of my vehicles and have been fortunate to keep my mileage down. My Edge has only 11K on it. It helps the trade-in value a great deal. (It seems I never keep cars longer than 3 years. I did have a Jeep Wrangler Sport for 11 years.)

I think the best thing to do is not think about this. I was looking at a Chevy Volt last week. Doing the right thing for the planet and my wallet is important though.

This story may be continued at a later time.

Idol Results - Mar 8, 2012

Results last night pitted the lowest scoring three boys against the lowest scoring three girls. One from each group would have the lowest votes and be in danger of going home. Judges Randy, JayLo and Steven Tyler would have the final say on which to save and which one send home. The boys included: Joshua Ledet, Jermaine Jones and Jeremy Rosado.

Ok, I have to say that from the many years of watching this show, the one thing I have learned is, you never can count on the voters to do the right thing. Never assume ANYONE is safe. Each year there are at least 2 contestants that are surprisingly eliminated. That is why you must always support your favorites. Last night wasn't too much of a surprise. Two nights ago I didn't pick who I thought the lowest three guys would be, I just picked who I thought would be in danger of going home. I didn't see Joshua Ledet or Jeremy Rosado being in the bottom three, but they were. Eventually, Joshua and Jermaine rejoined the others, leaving Jeremy as the lowest scoring guy.

As for the lowest scoring three girls, Elise Testone (no surprise), Erika Van Pelt (a little surprised, but I have to remind myself of the demography of viewers; mostly young girls and families. Young girl voters mess this whole voting thing up. Not often do they vote for the best singer, they vote for the cutest...someone they can relate to. Erika Van Pelt is a bit older and definitely more mature, so I shouldn't have been surprised at all!) and finally, Shannon Magrane. Shannon and Erika were eventually judged to be safe and rejoined the other contestants that would forward one more week.

So the bottom two people were Jeremy Rosado and Elise Testone. Which of these two did I think should go home? Well, the judges decided Elise should have another chance. I was a little disappointed. I think Jeremy is a good singer.

The bottom line is, you never know how this contest will evolve, even when you think you do. I am forced to keep changing my favorites. Perfect example is last season's winner. Scotty McCreery wasn't my first, second or third pick, but I did end up hoping he would win only because he lived 12 miles from me. I did think Lauren Alaina was the better singer.

Stay tuned boys and girls!

American Idol - Whitney Houston and Stevie Wonder Night

So last night, the girls sang Whitney Houston songs and the guys took to songs by Stevie Wonder. All in all, everyone did a great job. I'll start with the ones that were the least impressive.

Shannon Magrane had a bad case of stage freight and her performance of I Have Nothing suffered because it. The judges, whose words are usually well chosen, spoke matter of factly. She was very unsure of herself and it showed. I felt really bad for her. The judges singled her out at the end of the show, as the one in most danger of going home.

Next is, Elise Testone. In my opinion, she is also near the bottom. In rehearsal with Jimmy Lovine and Mary J. Blige, she was a bit testy and defiant. Definitely not the attitude to have with industry greats who are there to help. It carried over into her performance of, I'm Your Baby Tonight. She was uncomfortable and admitted she had "never heard of the song"! She struggled throughout the performance with her "power-rock" style. It was gravelly, lacked confidence and parts were pitchy. All in all, it was a train wreck waiting to happen.

Next is Jermaine Jones. His performance was not too bad. The only thing I would say is, he needs to work on voice control and stage presence. He has raw talent but needs a lot of work. I do not believe he will be the next A.I.

The best performance of the evening came from Jessica Sanchez. Her performance of I Will Always Love You, was nearly perfect. Other great performances came from Erika Van Pelt, Colton Dixon, Joshua Ledet and Hollie Cavanagh. In my opinion, these are the ones to watch this season. The results show is tonight. I think it's going to be pretty predictable.

TOYS !

Went to Best Buy yesterday and I ALWAYS enjoy going. I was there for about an hour and a half. I always look to see what's new. I'm like a kid in a toy store. I see things and feel like I have to have them. My next dream purchase is this Samsung TV for my downstairs living room. I have its sister upstairs in the den, which is where I hang out. I believe that TV watching should be a great experience. Quality picture and sound are paramount. Anyway, anytime I'm in Best Buy, the wheels in my brain start turning. I get a little high. Crazy but true. I ended up getting a stand and wireless keyboard for my IPad. I also bought bluetooth house phones/answering machine bundle pack. I can pair my cell phone with it and transfer my iPhone phonebook....nice! I don't know if this makes me a geek or not, but it is exciting!

American Idol *Results Show* Top 13

After 33 million votes, twenty-four became thirteen. Fortunately, there weren't many tears, except for Jeremy Rosado. Jeremy didn't make the top 10 and was one of six contestants to sing for the three remaining spots. Upon making the cut, he dropped to his knees and wept. He hugged each of the judges and cried on their shoulders. It was sincere and genuine, and even made me cry. The hi-lighted names are the ones I predicted would make the cut. I got 61.5% I was really shocked that Chase Likens didn't make it through. I think America got that wrong big time. Stay tuned!

1. Phillip Phillips
2. Jessica Sanchez
3. Hollie Cavanagh
4. Joshua Ledet
5. Heejun Han
6. Shannon Magrane
7. Skylar Laine
8. Elise Testone
9. Colton Dixon
10. Jermaine Jones
11. Erika Van Pelt
12. Deandre Brackensick
13. Jeremy Rosado

Some Funnies

                                                           The Prostate Exam

Yesterday I had an appointment to see the urologist for a Prostate exam. Of course I was a bit on edge because all my friends have either gone under the knife or had those pellets implanted...

The waiting room was filled with patients.
As I approached the receptionist's desk, I noticed that the receptionist was an unfriendly woman who looked like a Sumo wrestler. I gave her my name. In a very loud voice, the receptionist said,

"YES, I HAVE YOUR NAME HERE; YOU WANT TO SEE THE DOCTOR ABOUT IMPOTENCE, RIGHT?"
All the patients in the waiting room snapped their heads around to look at me, a now very embarrassed man. But as usual, I recovered quickly, and in an equally loud voice replied,

'NO, I'VE COME TO INQUIRE ABOUT A SEX CHANGE OPERATION, BUT I DON'T WANT THE SAME DOCTOR THAT DID YOURS."
The room erupted in applause!

                                          Negative People

A woman was at her hairdresser's getting her hair styled for a trip to

Rome with her husband. She mentioned the trip to the hairdresser, who responded: "Rome? Why would anyone want to go there? It's crowded and dirty. You're crazy to go to Rome. So, how are you getting there?”

"We're taking Continental." was the reply. "We got a great rate!"

"Continental?" exclaimed the hairdresser. "That's a terrible airline.
Their planes are old, their flight attendants are ugly, and they're
always late. So, where are you staying in Rome?"

"We'll be at this exclusive little place over on Rome 's Tiber River
called Teste."

"Don't go any further. I know that place. Everybody thinks its gonna
be something special and exclusive, but it's really a dump.”

"We're going to go to see the Vatican and maybe get to see the Pope."

"That's rich." laughed the hairdresser. “You and a million other
people trying to see him. He'll look the size of an ant. Boy, good
luck on this lousy trip of yours. You're going to need it."

A month later, the woman again came in for a hairdo. The hairdresser
asked her about her trip to Rome.

"It was wonderful, " explained the woman, "not only were we on time
in one of Continental's brand new planes, but it was overbooked, and
they bumped us up to first class. The food and wine were wonderful,
and I had a handsome 28-year-old steward who waited on me hand and foot.
And the hotel was great! They'd just finished a $5 million remodeling
job, and now it's a jewel, the finest hotel in the city. They, too,
were overbooked, so they apologized and gave us their owner's suite at
no extra charge!"

"Well," muttered the hairdresser, "that's all well and good, but I know
you didn't get to see the Pope."

"Actually, we were quite lucky, because as we toured the Vatican, a
Swiss Guard tapped me on the shoulder, and explained that the Pope
likes to meet some of the visitors, and if I'd be so kind as to step
into his private room and wait, the Pope would personally greet me.
Sure enough, five minutes later, the Pope walked through the door and
shook my hand! I knelt down and he spoke a few words to me."

"Oh, really! What'd he say?"

He said: "Who fucked up your hair?"

                                                          Prostitute Joke

Two prostitutes were riding around town with a sign on top of their car that said:
Two Prostitutes -$50.00. A policeman, seeing the sign, stopped them and
told them they'd either have to remove the sign or go to jail.

Just at that time, another car passed with a sign
saying: JESUS SAVES. One of the girls asked the officer,
'How come you don't stop them?' 'Well, that's a
little different,' the officer smiled, 'Their sign pertains to religion.'

The following day the same police officer noticed
the same two hookers driving around with a large sign on their
car. He figured he had an easy arrest until he read their new
sign: Two Fallen Angels Seeking Peter - $50

           What Causes Arthritis

A drunk man who smelled of alcohol
sat down on a subway next to a priest.
The man's tie was stained, his face
was plastered with red lipstick, and
a half-empty bottle of gin was sticking
out of his torn coat pocket.

He opened his newspaper and
began reading.
After a few minutes the man
turned to the priest and asked,
'Say Father, what causes arthritis?'

The priest replies, 'My Son, it's
caused by loose living, being with
cheap, wicked women, too much
alcohol, contempt for your fellow
man, sleeping around with prostitutes
and lack of a bath.'

The drunk reflected about this for a minute and muttered,
'Well, I'll be ***** '
Then returned to his paper.

The priest, thinking about what
he had said, nudged the man
and apologized. 'I'm very sorry.
I didn't mean to come on so strong.
How long have you had arthritis?'

The drunk answered, 'I don't have it, Father.
I was just reading here that the Pope
does.'

MORAL: Make sure you understand the
question before offering the answer.

                                                                  Jane and Arlene

Jane and Arlene are outside their nursing home, having a drink and a smoke, when it starts to rain. Jane pulls out a condom, cuts off the end, puts it over her cigarette, and continues smoking.

Arlene: What in the hell is that?

Jane: A condom. This way my cigarette doesn't get wet.

Arlene: Where did you get it?

Jane: You can get them at any drugstore.
The next day, Arlene hobbles herself into the local drugstore and announces to the pharmacist that she wants a box of condoms.

The pharmacist, obviously embarrassed, looks at her kind of
strangely (she is after all, over 80 years of age), but very delicately asks what brand of condom she prefers.

'Doesn't matter Sonny, as long as it fits on a Camel ..'

The pharmacist fainted.

American Idol - Girls Night

So last night, the twelve girls took to the stage, each vying for one of six spots. I was really impressed. I believe there will some disappointed contestants and fans when the results are aired tonight. That's how close the girls competition is. Of the twelve, there were only two obvious singers that probably won't move forward. I believe the girls are a better lot, compared to the guys. Here are my favorite six that I would like to see move forward.

Jessica Sanchez

  Elise Testone

  Jen Hirsh

  Erika Van Pelt

  Hollie Cavanagh

 Hallie Day

There is one other girl that I'd like to see move forward; she is Chelsea Sorrell. She could possibly replace Hollie Cavanagh or Hallie Day. These are just my favorites. Unfortunately, the finalists are chosen by the public, not the judges. Regardless of who takes the twelve spots, it's going to be a tough competition.
